Upcoming Events in 2008 The 2008 Canberra Mathematical Association Conference is being held on the 22/23 August at the Australian Catholic University.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS 2:00 pm Friday - Anthony Harradine – Director, Noel Baker Centre for Maths Education, Adelaide. Anthony is well-known throughout Australia and overseas for his innovative ideas on Maths Education. Since 1990, Anthony has been actively involved in the process of integrating the use of electronic technology into teaching, learning and doing mathematics. He has a passion for mathematics, maths education and professional development of teachers. 5:30 pm Friday - Derek Holton of the University of Otago. Derek is well known in Maths Education circles as a person with a passion for involving students in their learning. He has collaborated with Charles Lovitt in publishing a book for the Curriculum Corporation – “Lighting Mathematical Fires”. 9:45 am Saturday - Ann & John Baker. Ann is an expert in mental computation strategies & former Director of the Institute of Education at King’s College, London. John is an expert in the use of IWB’s in teaching & learning Maths, & was formerly at the Open University in England. Ann & John now live in Qld and have developed ‘Natural Maths’, a program for promoting mathematical thinking. There are also upcoming professional learning
opportunities. |
